‘Siragugal’  is a Tamil word that means wings.

Siragugal ‘ is a Society rooted in Ootacamund, the Queen of the Western Ghats in South India. We seek to give wings to the children who live around us. We wish to  empower them so they can shake off  the things that may tie them down – sex, age, poverty, social status, cultural background – and soar higher and higher  as the poet Bharathi said.

We conduct  classes  to get children to speak and open up  where teaching is done in non conventional methods. We have classes in craft and art and computers.  We take them out for trips and meetings and games. We hold carnivals and  fairs. The children get to meet people from all walks of life. The total experience , we hope, will enrich their lives .

This blog is a record of the steps of our Society as we travel , doing things , making mistakes, learning, and generally moving forward in the direction planned.
